With increased competition, casinos are being challenged to improve their business effectiveness and expand their customer bases to grow profit margins. Senior managers need to make strategic business decisions that keep political, social and business concerns in mind.

Through an examination of both internal and external perspectives, participants will discuss the distinctive nature of the casino industry and the impact this has on business operations. The course first explores the casino's external environments and influences to see what impact they have on the consumers and the competition. The course then moves to the internal control factors of product, price and promotions. The course concludes with a discussion on the future of gaming.

Participants will be engaged in weekly online discussions about the industry-wide operational concerns, which will provide an authentic basis for problem-solving and decision making. Articles presented will reflect the Canadian, American and international perspectives on gaming. We will look at career profiles from executives within the casino industry to better understand the demands that are placed upon decision makers. A final assignment will allow for analysis of current external challenges within the gaming industry at a strategic level.

This course is designed for entry-level managers and those aspiring to be in gaming management positions.
