Purchasing Management Certificate
This program provides training for professional working in or aspiring to positions in purchasing, logistics or supply chain management. The program will introduce the basics of the supply chain process, management, purchasing, and contracting issues. The classes are self-paced and can be taken in any order. Some classes may require a textbook. To earn the Purchasing Management Certificate, you must take the required four classes and a minimum of three electives.

Required Courses:

Essentials of Purchasing
Participants will examine the fundamentals of the purchasing function in the context of efficiency and organization. Course topics include the administrative aspects of purchasing, purchasing methodologies and optimization strategies.

The Supply Chain Process
Participants will be introduced to the various aspects of the supply chain environment, including enterprise resource planning systems and requirement systems. The interrelationships among purchasing, vendor selection and supply sources will be explored, as well as the role of technology, highlighting an integrated approach to planning, acquisition, flow and distribution from raw materials to finished products.

Management Essentials
This course focuses on the management function and the skills and resources necessary to develop and grow a successful manager. Course topics include developing a corporate culture, working successfully with teams, developing and implementing successful people-management strategies, and workflow and performance management.

Budgeting Essentials
This course introduces the fundamentals of the budgeting process, including understanding not only how to prepare a budget, but how to manage a budget within the context of a hierarchical organizational structure. Participants will be exposed to the various components of a budget and how they work together as well as how to prepare, organize and structure a budget using basic financial statements.


Elective courses:

The Procurement Process
Students will be introduced to principles that guide how suppliers are selected to provide goods and services through the various phases of the procurement process. This course provides a thorough overview of RFPs, responses and contract bid work.

Supplier Contracting
This course explores the contracting process and provides an understanding of the source of supply (i.e., purchase orders, contracts, etc.) and explores decision-making in supplier contracting. This course provides a foundation in contracting issues.

Persuasive Communication
Persuasive communication is essential not only for selling the products or services of the business but for obtaining financing and running daily operations. This course will provide students with the opportunity to gain confidence and improve their communication skills. Even the most skilled communicator can learn additional techniques for success.

Negotiating Strategies
The business environment and culture of any business relationship are often the product of a negotiation. This course will explore the process of negotiating, evaluate negotiation styles and consider successful negotiation strategies for most environments. 

Price and Cost Analysis
In this course, students will learn various techniques associated with evaluating pricing and costing, including methodologies for increasing profitability and minimizing losses. Different price comparison methods as well as strategic cost analysis will be explored.

Legal Aspects of Contracts
Contracts are an integral part of the day-to-day operation of any business. This course will examine the basics of business contracts, focusing on the key components of everyday business contracts. No legal knowledge is necessary for this course, which will help participants understand the legal and business issues in most business contracts but will not equip participants to evaluate the law.
