As a manager, supervisor or leader, do you often feel challenged by getting others to understand and support your ideas and suggestions, execute on strategy, or move projects forward? The ability to influence others is a critical leadership skill that eludes even the best communicators.

Being successful requires the ability to use a strategic, systematic process to successfully influence others. This course will review the guiding principles of effective influence. You will learn a strategic five-step process, explore distinct approaches to apply in distinct influence situations, and use three simple, powerful tools that will help you prepare for and facilitate influence so you have a greater chance of getting what you need from others and achieving your goals

Learning Objectives:
  • Articulate the principles that drive successful influence
  • Outline a five-step process to follow when influencing others
  • Use three tools that will help define objectives, assess the situation and select the right strategy for influencing others
  • Leverage critical communication and emotional intelligence strategies to effectively have influential conversations.

This course may be taken independently or applied toward a 10-course certificate in Human Resources Management or Supervisory Management offered through Extended Studies.

This course has been approved for 6 HR General recertification credit hours for the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) and 6 PDCs for the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM).
