Working With the Problem Employee is an interactive, skills-focused workshop designed for supervisors, managers and HR professionals who must navigate challenging workplace behaviors. Problem employees can drain time, disrupt team morale, consume resources and create organizational risk. This course equips participants with practical tools to identify problematic behaviors, understand their impact and confidently address issues before they escalate.

Through discussion, hands-on exercises, communication practice and workplace scenarios, participants learn how to manage difficult conversations, de-escalate conflict and deliver feedback that promotes accountability and improvement. The course also introduces DISC behavioral styles, helping participants understand how different personality tendencies influence communication, conflict and motivation.

By the end of the class, attendees will leave with deeper insight into behavior dynamics, improved communication tools and a personalized action plan for addressing their own challenging employee in a constructive, professional and effective manner.

Key Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Identify problem employee behaviors and understand their impact on individuals, teams and the organization.
  • Communicate more effectively using active listening, clear questioning and constructive “I” statements.
  • Deliver timely, behavior-focused feedback and conduct difficult conversations with confidence and clarity.
  • Apply conflict-resolution strategies and determine when to coach, redirect or initiate disciplinary action.
  • Use the DISC behavioral model to adapt communication and improve interactions with different personality styles.
