Talking Til You’re Blue? How to Handle Difficult Conversations (short course)

This interactive workshop will enable team members to strengthen their team results and relationships by helping them learn and practice superior dialogue and conflict management skills. Participants will learn best-practice techniques for side-stepping common causes of communication breakdowns, strategies for opening and sustaining dialogue during difficult conversations, and a process for collaboratively creating solutions.

Participants will practice these strategies in relevant case scenarios or personal experiences to reinforce their learning and skill development. They will leave the session with the confidence and capability to hold the most daunting dialogues in a way that fosters positive team outcomes.

Learning Objectives:
  • Explain what dialogue is and how it affects results.
  • Explain the attitude and skills necessary to get to dialogue, i.e., how to recognize and manage your own role and reaction.
  • Explore techniques and use best practice tools to manage through conflict.
  • Identify strategies for approaching difficult conversations with greater confidence and better results.
This course has been approved for 3 HR General recertification credit hours for the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) and 3 PDCs for the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM).
